'It's both exciting and daunting to have the support of the regional chairs and directors that led to my election as VP. Thank you!
The role is already adding to the diversity of my day-to-day life! I've run my practice for almost 10 years and continue to be surprised about the breadth of activities that I'm involved with – from small projects to advising within the public sector, as Part III examiner, PSA (Part I) at Birmingham School of Architecture and RIBA CPD assessor. I've been an active member of the RIBA for a long time and recently have enjoyed being West Midlands Regional Chair and a member of N&RC. I also believe that regions should be actively represented on Council and find myself beginning my second year there.
Thoughts on becoming VP?
First, I see N&R as a key platform for promoting architecture and supporting our membership. We have a great network of Regional offices and this enables the RIBA to 'be there' for our members, for clients and as the launch pad for CPD, Awards and Love Architecture. Now is the time to build upon the successes of the past couple of years. Second, I intend to visit every region over the next few months to better understand where local agendas can be supported. And finally, I know that following Stephen Hodder as VP will be a challenge – anyone know his shoe size?'
