08 October 2008
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Venue:
Fort Dunlop, Fort Parkway, Birmingham, B24 9FE
Description:
Join RIBA and RICS on a visit to the infamous Green Roof of Fort Dunlop.
The tour is to be coupled with a presentation by Dr Adam Bates, University of Birmingham, Stefan Bodnar, Birmingham City Council and Liam Foster, Hyder Consulting UK Ltd.
Green roofs provide wide ranging benefits such as building insulation, increased roof longevity, urban cooling, improved aesthetics, reduced run-off, and habitat creation. Despite this their installation has not become normal practice in the UK due to a number of negative myths and a lack of understanding of how the benefits of green roofs can off-set their additional cost. This worthwhile seminar aims to redress the balance.
