Breakfast Briefing: Responsible Sourcing

01 May 2012

8:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Venue:

RIBA West Midlands, BMI, Margaret Street, Birmingham, B3 3SP

Description:

We regret to inform you that this event has been cancelled due to low subscription levels. We will endeavour to reschedule it and publish further details in due course.

Responsible sourcing is a mechanism through which construction materials and products are purchased from suppliers that have been audited against specific sustainability criteria, including environmental and social requirements. Many companies now offer certified responsibly sourced products - for example, all the concrete going into the Olympic Park has been certified to BES 6001 (the framework standard developed by BRE Global), but our research has shown a lack of market awareness and understanding of responsibly sourced products.

This CPD seminar will help designers understand:

  • why responsible sourcing is important, its benefits and challenges
  • what materials are available through approved schemes
  • how to get responsible sourcing credits in BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes

Using a combination of presentations, workshop tasks and debate, delegates will hear about industry-leading research, receive a detailed and objective overview of existing responsible sourcing schemes and collect a complimentary copy of 'The little book of responsible sourcing'.
