29 November 2012
1:30 PM - 4:30 PM
Venue:
MADE, 7 Newhall Square, Birmingham B3 1RU
Description:
This seminar will highlight the details to consider, so often omitted in books published and guidelines given to architects and designers. It will especially look at:
-
Different buildings and their uses and users – What do you need to consider when looking at the different sectors, where are the high risks? Examples of the considerations for a variety of buildings, e.g. sports buildings, schools, offices, etc. How are they impacted on, for example peak flows/fire evacuation/day or night time use/differing design criteria?
-
Fixtures, fittings and equipment – Often architects ensure that a person can park, get through the door and get to the toilet but once in, can they can sit, talk to the receptionist or work at a desk? Discussion on the reaching capacities, how would equipment affect different disabilities, what assistive technology might be required or could be used to assist.
-
Relevant product specification – Outline those products which may impact heavily on inclusion, what are the pitfalls, what needs to be considered? For example, door closers, toilet facilities, hearing systems, evacuation equipment, etc.
