CPD Procurement Roadshow

20 June 2013

9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Fazeley studies, 191 Fazeley St, Birmingham, West Midlands B5 5SE

The UK has some of the lowest levels of SME participation in public sector procurement.

The UK regularly applies disproportionate PQQ thresholds.

The UK is ineffective in its use of design as a selection criterion.

UK public procurement rarely focuses on design outcomes.

The above are some of the key findings of the report ‘Building Ladders of Opportunity’ produced by the RIBA’s Procurement Reform Group
As a result we are now staging a series of workshops around the country, for RIBA members, architects, others in the construction professions and most importantly clients, that will provide more information on the above issues as well as identifying potential solutions, including:

  • Encouraging the use of procurement practices which prioritise design quality and deliver long-term value for clients
  • Encouraging dialogue on access to procurement for small firms, between architects, co-professionals and procurement bodies (local authorities, housing associations, frameworks & contractors and others) at local level
  • Building constructive, ongoing and reciprocal relationships between the RIBA and public clients
  • Raising awareness of the RIBA’s ongoing work on the procurement of buildings

This free event will include:

  • Presentation of the recommendations of the RIBA report Building Ladders of Opportunity by Walter Menteth, Chair of the RIBA Procurement Reform Group
  • Case studies on best practice procurement
  • Question and answer discussion session
  • Free networking lunch

This event is free to attend; however, advanced booking is essential. To book your place please email riba.westmidlands@riba.org
