Architects and associated professionals working in England and Wales must understand the implications of the Party Wall etc Act 1996 and the detailed procedures it entails.
This seminar will outline the provisions of the legislation under the Party Wall etc Act 1996, give information on the interpretation of the Act and discuss the architects’ responsibilities and duties when acting as a party wall surveyor.
It will cover:

Overview of the Party Wall etc Act 1996

Detailed examination and discussion of sections 1, 2, 6 and 10 (including delegate involvement, questions and explanations)

An example project including serving appropriate Notices and making an Award.

This session will require delegates’ active participation.
Speaker: Nicol Stuart Morrow Dip Arch ARIBA, is an architect who has been in practice since the 1960s. Alongside his architectural practice he is also a surveyor specialising in party walls and boundary legislation and has lectured on these subjects in CPD courses arranged by the RIBA both in London and nationally. He is a member of the Pyramus & Thisbe Club – the principal advisor to the government on party walls. He is the author of the RIBA publication Party Walls – A Practical Guide.
