The Riba Yorkshire, Domestic Bliss conference was held on 14 September 2010 in Leeds. The conference provided a unique opportunity for architects and professionals from other disciplines to come together and debate current practices and the future of housing design and construction in the formative years of the 21st century and in light of the recent economic downturn. The tone of the conference was upbeat and optimistic about the future for housing design and construction with a strong emphasis on the increasingly important sustainable requirements for housing. This was in spite of the recent hard times endured by all in the construction industry and the reality that the combination of recession, deficit and new coalition government means that the business environment is irreversibly altered from the pre-recession construction boom. Both the speakers and members of the audience raise a range of timely and often poignant issues during the debate.
