The judges said ... "This familiar character on the Sheffield skyline has been sensitively restored and updated. It is a fine example of modern architectural conservation. The project re-makes a delicate and listed façade and gives a new life to the interior through the re-ordering of internal layouts. Existing spaces have been taken back to a palate of aluminium, parquet and marble whilst new additions of walls, toilets and built in furniture are sympathetic and carefully detailed.
An exemplary piece of modern architectural conservation, a building expertly restored and sensitively adapted under the careful stewardship of an informed client and engaged end-user."
