19 September 2012
2:00 PM - 4:30 PM
Venue:
Room A101, First Floor, Humanities Building, Broadcasting Place, Leeds Metropolitan University
Description:
The session will demonstrate how to navigate sustainable refurbishment projects through the four stages of work. Lucy Pedler will use case studies of buildings from 19th and 20th century to focus on:
-
Client skills
-
Design skills
-
Procurement skills
-
Construction skills
Practical advice will be provided on how to avoid some of the main pitfalls common to sustainable refurbishment and ensure a positive result. ‘Positive result’ being both a project which has low carbon emissions and is a beautiful, comfortable building from the point of view of the client.
Critical issues in delivering successful sustainable refurbishment projects will be addressed including internal and external wall insulation, specifying low impact building materials, ventilation & moisture control and integrating low carbon technologies - with the perspective of client, architect and contractor considered for each stage.
