Understanding design risk management

17 October 2012

2:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Venue:

Room A101, First Floor, Humanities Building, Broadcasting Place, Leeds Metropolitan University

Description:

Designers are often mislead about risk assessments in the design process from a poor understanding of how construction safety relates to the general application of health and safety under the Health and Safety at Work Etc Act 1974. The key to correct application of health and safety legislation in design is to focus on Design Risk Management as required under the Management Regulations and the CDM Regulations.

This seminar will focus on the process for Design Risk Management and how designers can discharge their duties under health and safety legislation (including the CDM Regs).

This session will include:

• Update on Statistics

• The HASAWA as the Umbrella Legislation in Construction

• Construction Specific Safety Legislations

• Legislation to be Considered by Designers

• Design Risk Management – The Process

• Design Risk Management (Good Practice) v Design Risk Assessment (Bad Practice)

This will be supported by real-life examples.
