Domestic Bliss RIBA Yorkshire Housing Conference 2010

14 September 2010

9:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Shine Business Centre, Harehills Road, Leeds, LS8 5HS

This one-day event is for architects and those working in the sector to debate and discuss the many complex issues of housing.

The UK construction industry has enjoyed a decade of boom, yet despite this, it is clear that the national housing market has failed to deliver more and better homes. The new Coalition Government has announced that four thousand homes will be built over the next twelve months. However, given the current economic pressures, will standards in housing have to take a step backward?

The event is supported by the Homes and Communities Agency. The Yorkshire Regional Director, David Curtis, will speak on housing delivery, design and funding in this new political era. Delegates will have the chance to debate the question ‘Does the UK model of home ownership nurture a more conservative approach to design and stifle innovation?’ with client bodies such as housing associations, private developers and the Princes Foundation.

There will also be the chance to see inspirational and innovative examples of best practice from Proctor Matthews, BACA Architects, Riches Hawley Mikhail and others in the sector. Other speakers include Dr Tatjana Schneider from the University of Sheffield, who will offer an academic perspective, and Professor Gregg Keeffe, who will speak about ‘Synergetic Urbanism: an ecological response to the problem of the six billion world’.
