RIBA Yorkshire Housing Group - achieving CSH Level 6 in affordable housing

28 February 2012

5:00 PM - 6:45 PM

Venue:

Park Dale Energy Centre, Airedale, Castleford WF10 2QP

Description:

Working within the new build social housing market presents its own unique challenges and the increasing demands of the sustainability agenda are forcing us to sit up and take note.

NPS with Bramall Construction set out to deliver a new low cost housing development for Wakefield and District Housing. The main driver of the brief was to achieve Code Level 6. To deliver 91 homes to Code Level 6 requires a fundamental and joined up rethink of how homes are designed and built. Achieving this required considerable teamwork and inventiveness on the part of the design team; satisfying all 9 category requirements, planning constraints, new methods of detailed design and construction as well as providing robust, tenant-friendly homes.

Graeme Kynman from NPS North East will discuss the challenges faced when designing low-cost, zero-carbon homes, and provide an insight into the benefits as well as the problems associated with such a project.

  • 5pm: tour of development
  • 5:45pm: Graeme Kynman discusses how the project was designed and built to achieve Code Level 6, followed by a Q&A / discussion
  • 6:45pm: Close
