The place of home
Housing is firmly back on the political agenda and there is a pressing need to provide homes for a growing (and ageing) population. People need high quality, warm, secure and energy-smart homes – but a home is not just an efficient housing unit; a ‘place’ is more than a convenient location. This conference will focus on the need for regeneration and strategic planning to recognise the importance of the complex and nuanced ideas of 'home' and 'place' in creating vibrant and viable communities.
We are joined by Wulf Daseking, former Chief Planning Officer for the city of Freiburg in Germany, the writer and filmmaker Roger Graef OBE - a commissioner in the RIBA's Future Homes initiative and joint Stirling Prize winner Alison Brooks, Housing Architect of the Year 2012.
The finale to the conference is a performance of Under Ply Wood by Thomas Dylan - an affectionate but irreverent view of the regeneration of our 'ugly lovely towns'.
