This conference will examine the challenges and benefits of retaining and enhancing the historic environment, with particular reference to Wales, covering:

  • The historic environment in the economy
  • Cross-cutting benefits of conservation, including through regeneration and tourism
  • Economic and environmental benefits of adopting conservation approaches across the built environment.

With the impact of recession increasingly threatening long-term investment, this is the perfect opportunity for people across heritage and related industries to highlight the economic benefits and potential of historic places.

With the keynote address from the Heritage Minister for the Welsh Assembly Government. Alun Ffred Jones, speakers include Marilyn Lewis (CEO, CADW), Jonathan Jones (Head of Tourism at WAG) and Professor Tom Woolley (Graduate School of the Environment Centre for Alternative Technology). The case studied featured in the afternoon will be:

  • Ebbw Vale Old Steel Works by Pierre Wassenaar (Stride Treglown Architects)
  • Cardiff Castle by John Edwards (TBK Associates)
  • Town Heritage Initiative by John Squire
  • Valleys Built Heritage Project by Sioned Lewis (Arad Consulting)
  • Great Milton Hall by Richard Dean (Page & Dean Consulting Architects) 

 

The cost includes an optional complimentary Banquet in Cardiff Castle the evening before the conference, on 23 September, for first c.80 bookings by full rate paying delegates.
