RIBA London will launch a new annual series of 'World Cities Debates' at this year's RIBA London Annual Dinner with a focus on Dubai and Abu Dhabi. An expert panel will discuss the future role of these two city-states, the potential involvement for architects in the region, issues of culture and sustainable development, as well as the forthcoming launch of the RIBA Gulf Chapter. The evening will include a drinks reception and seated three-course dinner.

Confirmed speakers and panellists include:

Opportunity: architect Simon Crispe, Atkins Middle East and Ambassador of the

Exemplary development: Denise Chevin, Editor of Building magazine - showcasing the Gulf States Building Awards.

Masterplan: Guy Briggs of EDAW will present the masterplan for Saadiyat Island including a cultural district with schemes by Tadao Ando, Foster + Partners, Frank Ghery, Jean Nouvel and Zaha Hadid.

Sustainability and Value Management: Stephen Oehme, Regional Director, Value Management and Sustainable Development, Hyder, consulting will talk about his experiences of working in the Unitaed Arab Emirates including Masdar City, Abu Dhabi's plan to build the world's first waste-free and car-free zero-carbon city which is under construction.

Development: Pim Robberechts, Head of Architecture, ALDAR PJSC represents one of the largest government owned developers in Abu Dhabi.

Iconic Architecture and Globalisation: Dr Leslie Sklair, Emiritus Professor of Sociology, London School of Economics.

Chair: Paul Finch, Editor of the Architectural Review  and Programme Director, World Architecture Festival.


Tickets are £88 plus VAT for RIBA members, £105 plus VAT for non-members and tables for 10 people are available at £880 plus VAT.
