The Research and Development department firmly supports and reinforces the RIBA’s mission, vision and strategy, and relates particularly to the following objectives from the detailed mission statement:

Maintain world-class knowledge base: by promoting and championing high-quality research and encouraging its dissemination and incorporation into the knowledge base of the profession.

Re-position architects as providers of both sound and imaginative solutions by: raising the profile of architects - practitioners and academics - engaged in the research and development of innovative designs.

Develop professional education to respond to changing environment and to meet current and future operating needs: by promoting dissemination of the outcomes of research for both applied and academic purposes, in CPD format when applicable.

Improve services to members and upgrade services to architects and construction industry: by understanding research needs of members and wider industry, and by building networks of those with research capability, funds and needs.

Maximise contribution of members and staff: by making best use of members' skills and experience on committees, task groups and steering committees.
