Small Practice Group

The Small Practice Group represents RIBA members in practices with 10 staff or fewer, and works with representatives of government and our fellow institutes to make the voice of the smaller practice heard.

Its areas of responsibility include:

  • facilitation of effective competition by small practices in a changing procurement arena
  • effective two-way communication between small practices and the RIBA
  • helping small practice to access the services of the RIBA, particularly those of the Practice department
  • promoting to clients the advantages of using small practices
  • encouraging liaison between practices and other small businesses outside the field of architecture
  • advising on the formulation of policy and strategy.

One of the Small Practice Group's main activities is Guerrilla Tactics, the annual RIBA small practice CPD day and conference held over two days at the RIBA's London headquarters, providing architects with a lively programme of seminars, presentations and panel discussions. 

The Group has developed a position paper on public sector procurement policy as it impacts on SMEs and micro-practices. The recommendations of the position paper have been incorporated into the RIBA's response to the EU Green Paper on the modernisation of EU public procurement policy - Towards a more efficient European Procurement Market.
