The President is elected for a two-year term by RIBA members. The current President, Ruth Reed, took up office in September 2009. The Chief Executive, Harry Rich, leads the professional team of some 200 in London and around the country.
RIBA Council
RIBA Council is the charter body, and is ultimately responsible for the conduct and development of the institute. It comprises 60 trustees, the large majority of whom are chartered architects.
The council passes down detailed responsibility and technical focus to the executive. The executive is split into four subsidiary companies, each with its own board of directors, trustees and staff.
RIBA Board
The RIBA Board is the group and holding company board, responsible for directing the overall business of the RIBA. It operates under the overall authority and policy of the elected Council of trustees, and co-ordinates the operations of the subsidiary companies.
