John founded his own architectural practice over twenty years ago. At the time of writing, the practice has 72 staff and is involved in a number of important large-scale urban regeneration and master planning projects. John's specialist expertise lies in the design of complex, residentially-led mixed use developments and the careful redevelopment and conversion of listed buildings.
John is a nationally-elected member of the RIBA Council. He has been a judge for the RIBA Regional Awards and is on the judging panel for the National Home Builder Design Awards, the What House Awards and also judged the 2003 Evening Standard Home Awards.
Along with sponsoring a student bursary at Oxford Brookes University for research, John has also recently initiated the Assael Scholarship, an annual donation to the joint RIBA and V&A's Architecture for All Foundation that will support the cataloguing of 20th century architectural drawings.
John was made Chairman of the RIBA Professional Services Board and also Vice President, Professional Services in 2008.
