The purpose of the group is to provide an expert knowledge resource to support the RIBA's policies, actions and guidance on the repair and conservation of historic buildings.

Policy: develop RIBA policy (national and regional) on conservation, the listing process, heritage sites, building regulations etc.

Communication: communicate the role of architects in conservation by press articles, awards, conferences; provide information, guidance and links to other organisations on the website; provide advice to individual architects, practices and other professions.

Liaison: with the RIBA CPD department identify potential CPD providers etc; with the RIBA Education and R&D departments identify research requirements, sources of funding etc.

Accreditation: encourage architects to become accredited and work with the RIBA practice department on the development of, and improved access to, accreditation.

Maintaining standards in the built heritage sector
The RIBA Conservation Architecture Group supports the memorandum of understanding on maintaining standards in the built heritage sector in England developed by Construction Skills, English Heritage and the National Heritage Training Group.
