Linked societies are independent, self-governing associations with close collaborative links to the RIBA. Their membership is made up, in the main, of RIBA members and they exist to enable members to pursue special interests such as health buildings or product design. There are currently five linked societies, with more information about them below.

Design for Homes aims to radically improve the quality, value and desirability of new homes in the 21st century. Working with developers, home owners and architects, it promotes the value of good design in residential development by:
-
publishing, through website and print partners
-
research, through website, publications and email
-
education, through website, seminars, publications and conferences
-
industry and public recognition, through website, specialist and mass media

Product Innovation in Architecture (PIA)
PIA aims to encourage and facilitate innovative product development in architecture by looking at ways in which the skills of the architect can be applied to the design of products and components. Product design is a growth area for architects – many are now developing products and components that came out of architectural commissions and some are even working full-time on product design.

Solo Practitioner Group North West
The group aims to promote the activities of solo practitioner architects and to provide mutual support. Note that the society requires all its members to be members of the RIBA and to be sole principal of their practice, without partners.

Traditional Architecture Group
The group seeks to work within architectural, planning and educational disciplines to promote the value of a traditional approach in architecture and design. The group provides mutual support, a meeting point and a venue for the exchange of ideas for those individuals interested in or practising contemporary traditional architecture.
