RIBA/LSC Further Education Design Excellence Awards 2009
Winners Announced - 18 June 2009:
Joseph Chamberlain College, designed by Nicholas Hare Architects LL
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and Learning and Skills Council (LSC) named Joseph Chamberlain College as the winner of the prestigious Further Education Design Excellence Award 2009.
The annual awards celebrate design excellence in the Further Education sector and entries were judged on their innovation, excellence, sustainability and adaptability; Joseph Chamberlain College was deemed as delivering the most effective and innovative learning environment in a FE building.
The four shortlisted Colleges were awarded certificates for the following criteria:
Highfields Automotive & Engineering Centre designed by Hawkins Brown Architects, Highly Commended for Employer Engagement
Middlesbrough College designed by Archial Architects LTD, Highly Commended as a Large Scale Cross Curriculum Project
The National Skills Academy for Financial Services designed by The Tooley & Foster Partnership, Highly Commended for an imaginative reuse of an existing building
York College designed by Bond Bryan Architects, Highly Commended as a Large Scale Cross Curriculum Project
RIBA/LSC Further Education Design Sustainability Award 2009
This year, an additional award has been introduced for the project that best addresses sustainability.
The RIBA/LSC Further Education Design Sustainability Award 2009 was awarded to:
The National Skills Academy for Financial Services designed by The Tooley & Foster Partnership
Kendal College designed by Taylor Young Architects
