George Henderson is Emeritus Professor of Architecture at De Montfort University (DMU), UK and Principal of Henderson Associates. He is a registered architect and planner engaged in consultancy and research in the fields of architecture and urban planning. Until June 2001, he was Head of the Leicester School of Architecture, a post held at DMU for over 13 years. Since January 2003 he has been Senior Academic Advisor on Architecture to the Centre for Education in the Built Environment (CEBE) at Cardiff University, Wales.
He is immediate Past-President of the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) and sits on the Higher Education Design Quality Forum (HEDQF). He is member of the Enabling Panel for the UK Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and has served on numerous national committees on behalf of The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the Architects Registration Board (ARB), the Standing Conference of Heads of Schools of Architecture (SCHOSA), the Council for National Academic Awards (CNAA), the CAA and other bodies. He was RIBA Vice President for Education (1996-98), instituting the RIBA Stansfield-Smith Review of Architectural Education (1999) and Chairman of SCHOSA's Steering Committee (1992-1995). He represented East Midlands Region on RIBA National Council for six years (1994-2000). He is currently Chairman of CAA's Validation Panel; a member of the ARB/RIBA Validation Panel; and the ARB/RIBA Assessment Panel.
Current research topics include the development of a system of Post Occupancy Evaluation for higher education buildings funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE); and Community Asset Management in Africa, funded by DFID. He has published widely and contributed to a number of books on urban design, environmental education and architectural education.
