Continuing the series of health building visits, the RIBA Health Client Forum is planning a one day symposium at Walkergate Hospital Newcastle, the new £25m specialist rehabilitation centre, built on the site of the former Northern Regional Health office. The event will explore the patient experience of the National Health Service and its public buildings. Speakers include Bill Murray OBE, former Chief Executive of the James Cook University Hospital, South Tees NHS Trust , Karen Urwin of Walkergate Hospital and Phil Bentley of P+HS Architects. The event will include an afternoon debate and guided tour of the hospital.
Speaking of the event, Bill Murray, Chair of the RIBA Health Client Forum stated
"Healing environments, single rooms, arts programmes, quality landscaping and the innovating use of old health care sites are all important ingredients in modern health care design.
The new £25 million Walkergate Park Centre in Newcastle has all of these blended into a most exciting rehabilitation campus.
The RIBA Health Client Forum has arranged one of its present series of study days at the Walkergate site on the 14 November.
