Futures Fair 08 'The Global and the Local'

15 May 2008

9:15 AM - 3:45 PM

Venue:

RIBA, 66 Portland Place, London W1B 1AD

Description:

How can the built environment work to reduce our reliance on unlimited travel? Globally, are places like Dubai already the ultimate in retail liesure destinations and is there enough thought of 'people sustainability' in city planning?

Building Futures, the RIBA's think tank, hosts a fast paced day of ideas and interaction, bringing together architects, designers and construction professionals to investigate the role of architecture over coming years. The outlook for the profession is changing by the day as news reports and markets anticipate recession, futures thinking and anticipation of what's to come has never been more crucial to your organisation.

Futures Fair 08 is a day long event of topical seminars and presentations featuring Reinier de Graaf at OMA, Mary Reilly of the LDA, Sir David King and many other leading thinkers. The aim is to encourage all those in research, design and development to take 'futures' on both as a strand of thinking and also as part of how they do business.

To accompany the event this year, a special evening lecture 'Futures Dialogues'  hosted by Building Futures, in conjunction with the RIBA Trust will feature a discussion with Spencer de Grey at Foster & Partners in conversation with sociologist and author Saskia Sassen at LSE & Columbia University, New York.

Fees:

Standard £90 + VAT (£105.75)
Discounted £75 + VAT (£88.15)

Available to all RIBA members, CPD providers, Foresight FAN club members, researchers and students

(all day ticket includes 'Futures Dialogues' evening event.)
