Pencil and black chalk; not built
RIBA Library Drawings Collection

This is a presentation drawing for the library and administration building at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Mies van der Rohe, a pioneer of Modernism, became director of the School of Architecture in 1938. The use of pencil and chalk expresses perfectly his cool, rational style.
