The enormous domes are made of interlocking hexagons and triangles, put together on the geodesic principle which enables them to resist loads from all directions. Geodesic structures are especially good at spanning large spaces. The framework is made of tubular steel and the pillow cladding of a lightweight plastic foil called ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene).
