Muslims pray five times a day facing the holy city of Mecca. The call to prayer is recited from the mosque towers, or minarets. The mihrab or prayer niche inside a mosque indicates the direction of Mecca. The interior is carpeted but not furnished, and male and female worshippers are segregated.
