RIBA Stirling Prize winner 1996 - Centenary Building, University of Salford
This showpiece building for the University of Salford houses the design faculty. The university wanted a building that would demonstrate its commitment to technology and design.
The use of materials like stainless steel, concrete and glass bricks gives the building its sleek contemporary look. Internally, the state-of-the-art facilities are designed to be flexible, allowing departments within the building to be changed without too much disruption. Unlike most projects of this type, the building took less than a year to design and construct.
