From its launch in 1975, SAVE| has taken the offensive:

• fighting applications to demolish historic buildings
• demanding local planners serve repair orders on listed properties
• attacking government departments that fail to maintain fine architecture in their care
• taking legal action against ministers who decline to use the powers Parliament has given them to protect our heritage

SAVE works with engineers and architects to show how crumbling buildings can be made safe, restored and adapted to lively new uses.
 
Above all SAVE has sought to open eyes to forgotten and unknown places, and championed Britain's legacy of railways, mills, Victorian pubs, power stations and country houses.
 
This is a story of triumphs and tragedies, a battle as urgent now as it was 30 years ago.
 
Over 30 years SAVE has

• published more than 150 reports
• mounted over a dozen campaigning exhibitions
• issued more than 400 press releases
• published an annual catalogue of Buildings at Risk for 16 successive years
• started an online subscriber catalogue illustrating over 600 buildings at risk

SAVE has initiated successful legal proceedings to save

SAVE has taken on and successfully raised finance to restore

• 6 Palace Street, Carnarvon

And SAVE has never received an annual subvention from government.
 
In lean years, SAVE survived on an annual budget as low as £50,000.
