Architects build ideas. The book, therefore, has long been central to the realisation of their work. This is obvious when considering Le Corbusier - throughout his career, he was as much involved in architectural writing and publishing as designing and building.
The RIBA British Architectural Library is fortunate to possess first editions of nearly all of Le Corbusier's texts, diverse in format, media and colour. It is also home to seminal works which analyse the architect's ideas, practice, and influence. Directly encounter these original texts, experience the intense energy of Le Corbusier, and question their power then and now.
Why Workshop?
Understand Le Corbusier’s relationship with the medium of the book. Focus on Le Corbusier’s top texts, from L’Esprit Nouveau to Mise au Point. Inspired by this experience, you will then want to browse the library shelves for the countless other works and editions. Why not also use the workshop as an opportunity to consider:
-
the enduring the significance of the book to architecture
-
the architectural book as an art form, or polemic
-
the production of the book and its development in the 20th century.
