As designed, the Olympic Stadium in Baghdad was to be one of Le Corbusier’s most sophisticated, and mysterious works. Innovative engineering and spatial effects would combine, creating a building of both force and grace.

The stadium project, however, ran into difficulties. Uncompleted, it is little-known. Now reconstruct this significant masterwork dating from Le Corbusier’s later career. And why not couple it with a visit to the exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum, The Olympic Stadium Project: Le Corbusier and Baghdad|, or combine it with some of the events and activities provided at the V&A in connection with the display?

Why Workshop?

Excited by stadiums? Find out about this unique project designed when Le Corbusier was in his prime. This demanding commission can also help us question the following:

  • Olympic architecture, past and present
  • development of stadium and sport architecture
  • relationship of architecture and the environment
