How to create better neighbourhoods with Building for Life 12 - Oxford
The speaker will give an overview of place making since the end of the 90’s and an update on the current policy context - NPPF, NPPG, Farrell Review and Housing Design Guidance (HCA). He will describe what Building for Life 12 (BfL12) is about and:
- Explain how it can contribute to improving the quality of housing design and place making and achieving the “signs of a good place to live”
- Place BfL in the context of the tools that can, and should be used, to create the thriving communities of the future
- Equip attendees with the knowledge of the importance of BfL12 and when to use it to best effect
- Honestly appraise the potential of BfL12, including its shortcomings.
Dominic Murphy, Creating Excellence
Dominic is the executive director of Creating Excellence, a social enterprise and ‘centre of excellence’ that advises and trains regeneration and ‘place making’ practitioners. Previously he was employed as a senior policy adviser to the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit, based in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister in London. He is an experienced consultant, trainer and speaker on topics related to regeneration, localism and sustainable communities.
