This fascinating project sensitively restores the Grade I-listed St George’s Chapel as a community performing arts centre, creating a vibrant new cultural heart for the town and redeveloping the large surrounding urban space as the lynchpin of a greater community rejuvenation scheme.

The chapel has been sensitively restored, with its historic nave repurposed as a flexible performance space capable of housing 300 people. Funding for the scheme is from a number of sources including CABE's Sea Change programme, the Heritage Lottery Fund and RDA. English Heritage has contributed towards the repair of the Chapel fabric.
