Barcelona-based architects Emiliano López and Mónica Rivera have focused their practice primarily on public works through competitions. Mónica Rivera will talk about their project Hotel Aire de Bardenas in Navarre and how ordinary elements and materials found in the surroundings were reinterpreted and assembled to make a protected, quiet and comfortable place to inhabit a wheat field
SMAQ is a collaborative studio for architecture, urbanism and research based in Berlin. Co-founder Andreas Quednau will talk about how infrastructure, environmental conditions and patterns of usage are a means to create architecture and to generate environments. Their recent projects include master plans for Oslo and Dubai, the interior of an art hotel in Beijing; and "Dots&Loops" a scheme for the city of Burgos in Spain currently under construction.
