Buildings for the Dead: Tombs and Mausoleums

Tombs and mausoleums combine architecture and sculpture to perpetuate the memory of the dead. Key designs from the 16th to the 19th centuries, from papal tombs in St. Peter's Basilica to Alfred Steven's Wellington monument in St. Paul's Cathedral, will be used to illustrate key architectural innovations and the concerns and ambitions of the people who built them.
