Venice Takeaway
International Exchange #1

From Buckminster Fuller's Triton City to Kiyonori Kikutake's Marine City, living on water has long exercised designers' imaginations.

Concerned environmentalists and libertarian entrepreneurs alike now propose floating cities, so are water based communities becoming a realistic proposition rather than just a utopian dream? Could London's Royal Victoria Docks or sites elsewhere in the UK be developed as viable floating communities complete with businesses, homes and services?

To open the Venice Takeaway and a season of events across Spring 2013, Vicky Richardson - British Council, chairs a discussion investigating how the example of IJburg in Amsterdam might influence the future direction of the capital's celebrated waterways.

With speakers:

  • Alex de Rijke - dRMM
  • Sjoerd Soeters - Soeters van Eldonk
  • Mike Luddy - Royal Docks Management Authority
