Walker Arts Centre, Minnesota

Walker Arts Centre

In 2001 the Walker Arts Centre purchased the neighboring Allianz Life Insurance Building, providing an opportunity to significantly expand its facility to meet the needs of growth in attendance, programs, and collections as well as an increased emphasis on education. After an extensive international search Herzog and de Meuron were selected to develop a site plan for the museum's campus and design its expansion. Highlights of an the expanded centre include new galleries and gardens for the museum's growing collection, a 385-seat theatre, imaginative facilities for innovative education programs, rooftop terraces with spectacular views, and many visitor amenities, including a new restaurant, cafe, shop, and extensive underground parking.

The centre was completed in 2005.
