RIBA urges members to support Shelter and take part in Architect in the House 2013

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is encouraging members to sign up to participate in the highly successful Architect in the House scheme which launches on the 12 March. Now in its 17th year, Architect in the House matches homeowners with local RIBA chartered architects across the UK, while raising vital funds for the housing charity Shelter.

RIBA chartered architect George Clarke is leading this year’s annual Architect in the House campaign which offers homeowners a unique opportunity to be partnered with an architect for a one hour consultation for a suggested donation of £45 to Shelter.

George Clarke, RIBA Chartered Architect and Shelter ambassador, said: 'With the current state of the housing market, we’re staying in our homes for longer, but life doesn’t stand still and simple changes to your home can make a big difference. Architect in the House can really help people unlock the potential in their current homes and create more space, from a simple internal change to developing an attic space or designing an extension.'

RIBA President Angela Brady said: 'Whether it’s creating an open plan living space, designing an extension, or advising on making a home more energy efficient, 'Architect in the House' helps homeowners develop their ideas with an RIBA chartered architect, while raising much needed funds for Shelter’s work with families who are in housing need.

'I know RIBA members are very eager to support Shelter by using their expertise to raise funds to help families who are homeless or at risk of losing their home in these tough economic times.'
