Our collection of 150,000 books has been collected from all over the world. Over 100 new books are added to the our collections every month, ensuring that our Library remains a world-class public resource for architectural research.

Most books can be found on open shelves or rolling stacks. Visitors can browse the shelves (books are usually grouped by topic) or check the online catalogue for the details and locations of specific titles.

Our outstanding body of primary source material is located at the V&A Museum as part of our partnership with them. The RIBA Architecture Study Rooms at the V&A currently has reduced access due to building works, so please contact the team to plan your visit.
As the largest holding of architectural photographs in the world, our Robert Elwall Photographs Collection continues to grow and its material has been used in exhibitions at the RIBA and other institutions and galleries. This collection is available from our Library's Reading Room by appointment.
For books, periodicals, and photographs, the library is located on the third floor. Lift access is available from the ground floor.
Food and drink are not permitted in the library. Storage lockers are available, and a cafe is located on the ground floor of 66 Portland Place.
