An amazing building of architectural and social significance.  Built around 1470, the Guildhall has been the centre of community life for hundreds of years. The building is in the heart of Finchingfield, one of the prettiest villages in Essex.

There are many stories to hear about the Guildhall. The specialist conservation required when KPT Architects, conservation Builders, Fairhurst Ward Abbott, and other specialist craftsmen, analysed the historic fabric and old records available to better design and conserve this beautiful building, using ingredients as near to the original as possible.  Also the work of the Guildhall Trust, who, saved and brought back to life to the building, which was derelict and on the At-Risk Register.

For the first time in centuries you have the opportunity to see ancient features that had been lost over time, or become hidden within the fabric of the building that have been conserved and reinstated, revealing such features as mullioned and oriel windows, window shutters, arched headed medieval doorways, original wattle and daub, later Victorian pargetting and 15th century wall, and these have been incorporated into the new phase of the building's life.
