The new RIBA contracts have been designed to facilitate the successful completion of projects, resolving recurring issues in older versions or other contracts available in the industry. Complying with consumer protection regulations and clearly written, the RIBA contracts eliminate difficulties that may occur from conception to the completion of a project for all parties involved.

The seminar will provide an insight into contracts, communicating value to clients and diversification in a time of economic change.

The speaker will look at the following:

  • How are the new 2014 RIBA contracts more pragmatic than the previous editions and revisions? What are the main differences, innovations and benefits of using the latest documents available?
  • What contracts are available and what are they used for?

    • RIBA Domestic Building Contracts 2014
    • RIBA Concise Building Contract 2014
    • JCT Minor Works Building Contract 2011
    • JCT Minor Works Building Contract suite 2016 now addressing BIM, CDM Regulations, Government's Fair Payment Charter, guarantees/warranties, insurance and Public Contracts Regulations
  • What other contracts are available in the UK market and how do they compare to others such as the JCT Contract for a Home Owner/Occupier or the Federation of Master Builders Domestic Contract for Minor Buildings?
  • What should Parties consider when deciding on the contract to choose for a project?


This seminar will also provide an outlook on the RIBA Contract Administration Forms which form a tool to administer the RIBA Building Contracts, not only highlighting possible issues and what to look out for whilst completing the documentation itself, but also what may happen when using the wrong contract for a project.

Speaker: Geraldine Fleming, Knowles 
Geraldine has 20 years’ experience working in the construction industry, starting out as a Quantity Surveyor for Balfour Beatty Construction Limited, who sponsored her during her degree at Leeds Metropolitan University. She is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with a main contractor background and has been involved in a wide range of building and civil engineering projects. Geraldine is legally qualified, having completed a law degree and solicitors exams. She has extensive experience of dispute resolution including negotiated settlements, adjudication, arbitration and litigation. She is an accomplished lecturer and regularly presents courses and in-house lectures to a wide variety of clients.
