Hours: 35 Hours per week, full time, permanent

About the role and the team

As Public Affairs Executive, you will be working on a programme of public affairs activity focussed on Parliamentarians and Civil Servants.

The Public Affairs Executive role sits within the Policy and Public Affairs team, which leads on the RIBA’s engagement with government and the wider public policy debate.

Your role will enable you to establish relationships with key public affairs stakeholders as you work on a contact programme with MPs, Peers, Ministers, civil servants and key stakeholder organisations.

You will be responsible for overseeing the RIBA contact list of political and external stakeholders and working with our external monitoring agency to inform policy and public affairs team of the latest political developments from Government, Parliament and elsewhere.

You will be responsible for producing briefing materials as well as drafting speeches and articles for senior RIBA staff, members and President on key political and policy developments. A key part of your role will be working with our external partners to organise and manage the RIBA’s representation at Party Conferences.

About you

We are looking for someone with a keen interest in politics and the built environment. You will have the ability to interpret and communicate the political environment to non-political stakeholders and a high degree of political awareness.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in public affairs or a political role. You will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of parliamentary process and central and local Government structures.

The job will require negotiation and advocacy skills and an understanding of influencing political agendas as well as experience of event organisation.

An understanding of the media and experience of the use and role of social media campaigning in a political context.
