Salisbury Market Place

Launched in August 2008, the competition set the objective of finding a team to design and implement a high quality scheme which would improve, enhance and revitalise the Market Place, Guildhall Sqaure and surrounding areas as a high quality focal space for the historic city of Salisbury.

Invited Civic and Commercial

Letts Wheeler’s design is sympathetic to the heritage of the Market Place, uses warm natural materials and features a shallow rill.

In an extensive consultation exercise, held prior to final judging, Letts Wheeler’s design received a very positive response from the public, market traders, businesses and fairground operators.

The design provides a large, flexible space capable of accommodating an expanded charter fair and charter market, and more generous spaces for activities such as the Remembrance Day parade and outdoor seating for the existing pubs and cafes.
