48 entries were initially received and a shortlist of ten designs selected to further develop their schemes.

Following interviews with all shortlisted teams the panel identified the finalists for further funded development as:-

  • Andreas Vogler with the German Aerospace Center DLR, Germany
  • Priestman Goode, London

There will be £2.2 million in total available to fund the next stage development.

Three other schemes were highly commended and the client hopes to secure funding for development for these schemes in the future.

The Highly Commended are:-

  • Seymour Powell, London
  • Transport Design International (TDI) Worcestershire

“The Tomorrow’s Train Design Today Competition produced some very high quality proposals which are targeted at improving the rail sector and help to achieve the goals of the Rail Technology Strategy”.
