About the practice

When we set up Atomik in 2013 we had an idea of a practice that was about indivisibility. It was about bringing together an uncommonly diverse group of people who would collaborate to become something more than the sum of its constituent parts. There are now 13 of us and, just as our Atomik methodology values the smallest elements of a building and builds out from there, so the unique skills and background of every person in the practice help to inform our attitude and direction. As specialist non-specialists, our projects are surprising and varied, ranging from those where the emphasis is on technical problem solving, through to more ideas-led schemes where the focus is on craft and concept. All are unified by a desire to design with purpose and integrity. If we are asking the right questions in the brief, then we can find the right solution in the architecture. Our clients include schools and universities, developers large and small, arts organisations, hotel operators and government departments. The Atomik scale ranges in size from an art installation at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Arts to a cluster of towers in Nur Sultan, in scope from a temporary arts pavilion to a residential development in Hackney, in typology from a landscape scheme at Cambridge University to the extension and conversion of a Grade II-listed lodge.
