The gateway to Croydon Old Town is the setting for Atomik’s largest project to date. Working in collaboration with S.Williams Architects and Croydon’s visionary council placemaking team, we are delivering 115 residential units in this £20 million scheme. Cairo Place sits slightly apart from the other local regeneration initiatives, in a more sensitive, lower-rise part of town in the vicinity of several listed buildings. We have given the corporate-sized scheme – a four-storey podium topped with a set-back, fourteen-storey tower – our own bespoke, small-practice attention, arranging the social housing units with generous areas and their own front doors. A patchwork of material finishes has been refined and simplified to give the tower and podium a robustly elegant edge. The scheme was granted planning permission in December 2015.
