The residential units are designed to maximise use of the limited site area, yet respond to the scale and character of surrounding buildings. This is done in a quiet contemporary manner to reflect planning policy guidance in sympathy with context, yet eliminating pastiche. Along Moss Street simple brick buildings are created with largely slate roofs, within the overall grain of the site development. Set against these buildings are two-storey rendered bays set parallel with the road edge to reflect the separate grain of terraces adjacent to the street. These are seen as punctuations to reflect similar treatments surrounding the green. The scheme has been well received by the Client and users and won a Commendation in the RIBA White Rose Awards and The York Design Award.
