Pad 55 is a multi-award winning development of 15 houses and apartments on the edge of the Pickering Conservation Area. The concept of the scheme is to meet the client's brief for 'inspired, comfortable, high quality accommodation, with interesting internal and external spaces', in a sympathetic yet contemporary manner, adding quality and value to the Pickering Conservation Area. Natural materials and indigenous species form the core specification, as an appropriate response to quality within the Conservation Area. The focus of the scheme is a landscaped space, with buildings conceived as appropriate garden rooms, rather than hard, urban forms. The net effect is one of positive enhancement to the town. The scheme has been the subject of study by HAPPI, (Housing our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation) a review of outstanding European models of housing for the elderly.
