The Brock Carmichael designed new medical centre in St Leonards houses two GP surgeries and a pharmacy. It is based in Bexhill Road next to West St Leonards Community Centre which remained open throughout the build. The design and access statement by Brock Carmichael on behalf of developer SLMP Ltd states: “Over the past few years, West St Leonards has had to cope with the closure of two surgeries, South Saxon and Essenden Road, with patients having to travel further to access health care.” The new medical centre includes 26 consulting rooms, 6 treatment rooms and a training suite, becoming a modern health hub for up to 20,000 patients in the south west area of Hastings. As a health hub it will be able to facilitate services locally and ease pressure on the local hospital. The steel frame construction was built on piled foundations and incorporates bespoke rain screen cladding. With space on the site a premium, the plant room was designed to be provided on the roof with an acoustic surround. The scheme was built to BREEAM Excellent by south east main contractor Westridge Construction Ltd. Construction started in August 2019 and completed in October 2020. Others involved included Assura plc, Gravitate Consulting Engineers Llp and Till Asset Management Llp
